This paper presents a comparative measure of how residents assess the quality of public transport on different North of Portugal municipalities. This is a subjective measure, since it is based on the opinions given by respondents to the “Resident Population Mobility Survey – 2000”. The methodology is based on the balances between extreme answers, after which a principal components analysis was applied. The results suggest a distinction between the assessment of the quality concerning the provision of the service itself and the assessment of the quality related to the design of public transport network. On the other hand, the assessment of the quality of public transport seems to influence the decision on the most frequent means of transport.
