Abstract

This article of quantitative and qualitative approach is a clipping of studies supported by the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (FAPESP). It shows the housing situation for hyposufficient elderly people in Araraquara, a city considered aged, located in the state of São Paulo, which has policies directed to this population. Despite the efforts, has problems arising from the significant and permanent demand for housing, in addition to the emptying of the central areas with high proportion of idle properties. Reality shows that most Brazilians live and age in cities. Given this, they should be (re)considered initiatives, which make urban insertion and the right to adequate housing feasible, as an indispensable measure for the usufruct of urban space.
