Abstract

This study sought to map the production of scientific papers focusing on the scientific area of tourism in the Douro region, trying to understand the aspects and dimensions that have been highlighted and privileged in the indexed production in the WoS and Scopus databases, between 2000 and 2018. It is intended, therefore, to present a vision about the scientific production that explores an emerging tourist region, serving as basis for future academic investigations of tourism in the Douro. In general, part of the studies fits into the tourism perspective as a driver of regional development. It has become clear that the number of publications in these indexed journals has increased significantly since 2013. There is a tendency for authors to explore topics related to management, networking and marketing. Also remarkable, are the recent studies in the area of new technologies aimed at improving the experience of visitors to the region.
