Abstract

The excessive demand for coastal areas has brought disastrous consequences to the land use management, with the excessive construction of buildings, appearing some situations of second homes in coastal risk areas. lt will be presented the case of Furadouro, where it is verified, by one side the pronounced shoreline retreat, and by other side an excessive urbanization (2/3 of second homes). This coastal area also depends of coastal defense protection structures. Has this local population consciousness of changes in coastline and coastal risks that it is exposed to? lt is urgent the recovering of environmental and urban sustainability of coastal areas, which is largely dependent of the public active involvement and participation.
