Abstract

The present article aims to contribute for discussing alternatives for the sustainable development of supra-municipal platforms, which articulate sub-spatial units, at the city level. For accomplishing this, we explore a taxonomy of the spatial lifecycle, in order to reveal the necessity of creating an institutional platform among government, industry and higher education institutions, at the level of a City-region, which can integrate diversified spatial units with low density, as it happens in the Cova da Beira region.
