Considering that studies involving environmental concepts can reveal aspects that are home to natural, cultural, political, economic and social elements, we aimed to investigate how the Cerrado is perceived by high school students from two public schools (state and federal) at the municipality of Urutaí (GO, Brazil). For that, a questionnaire was used as instrument for collecting data, divided into two parts, with questions related to the student profile and how he/she perceived the Cerrado biome. The results show a little comprehensive perception of the biome, with a predominance of a reductionist and conceptual vision. In this sense, it is necessary to expand the discussion of issues related to the environment in the institutions, particularly in order to awaken the students' interest and awareness of the importance of adoption of conservation measures for the Cerrado biome.
