Social entrepreneurship is recognized as a valuable tool for creating value for society as well as for regional development. However, by blending a social and entrepreneurial orientation, social organizations are often faced with a resource scarcity scenario, which might constrain their ability to pursue their social mission. This research aims to understand to what extent the way resources are managed in Portuguese social organizations can influence their success. To achieve this purpose, the research uses a quantitative methodology, based on an online questionnaire survey sent to the managers of social organizations in Portugal. The investigation shows that the way the resources are managed influences the overall performance of these organizations, whether they are tangible resources (financial and technological resources) or intangible resources (identity, engagement of target groups and quality perception).
