As part of a project to monitor the quality of life in the city of Porto, a survey was apllied to 2,400 residents in order to study their perceptions. Some of the questions were related to the own concept of quality of life, with the purpose of identifying the aspects that are seen as fundamental for a city to be a good place for living and working. In this article the main results obtained from the statistical treatment of the answers are presented. This analysis is complemented by a multivariate analysis that allows the grouping of the interviewees in large homogenous groups and their social and economic characterisation.
