This work evaluates the blackspot sea bream fisheries in Corvo Island and suggests management policies. To do so, a neural network model was created and calibrated to analyse the relations between the amount of catch and the efford undertaken by fishermen. Then the model is simulated for different management policies in order to obtain the more appropriate. The conclusion is that presently the resource is underexploited, which can be due to the high oportunity cost for fishing. To promote a better use of the resource, with a larger rent to the fishermen and an increased development for the Corvo Island, fishing effort can be increased as long property rights are created for the local fishermen.
