A Sazonalidade da procura Turística na Ilha de Porto Santo

Tourism on islands has come to gain growing importance in the framework of European tourism development. At these regions the characteristics of monoproduction, supported on tourism that is seasonally dependent are the main determinants of the crescent atrophy of economic and social structure. On the island of Porto Santo, off the coast of Portugal, the growing importance of the tourism industry and associated effect of seasonality justify the aims of this paper. This paper sets out by identifying the seasonal dimension phenomenon, addressing issues such as its origin, causes and consequences. lt was concluded that the seasonality of island of Porto Santo have its origin on domestic market, which represent more than 70 percent of demand. Therefore the need for differentiation of demand and supply is determinant to invert the actual tourism demand density.
